barriers, including low mental health literacy, cognitive distortions and underestimation of mental health issues,
which had to be addressed in order to encourage seeking of mental health services offered in universities within
Tharaka Nithi County.
Based on the conclusions of this study, the study recommends:
i. Implementation of multi-channel mental health awareness and educational programs aimed at increasing
mental health seeking behaviour within universities
ii. A change to the county and national higher learning education policies to provision mandatory mental
health education as a unit in the current curriculum framework for all university students at the
undergraduate level.
