Abstract

The increasing need for learner-centered science education in the 21st century highlights the demand to develop learners who are not only competent but also scientifically literate. Scientific literacy enables learners to understand scientific concepts, think critically, and apply scientific knowledge to real-life situations. However, many Grade 7 learners struggle to fully understand abstract scientific views when presented through traditional teaching approaches and standard instructional materials. This challenge calls for emerging approaches that make science more meaningful and engaging. Among this approach is the use of story-based instructional materials, particularly Story-Based Science Learning Capsules, which incorporate narratives into science lessons to improve comprehension, retention, and interest. By presenting scientific concepts through relatable stories, learners are more likely to build deeper understanding and stronger connections to the subject matter

Keywords

The study’s significance is based on its potential to provide teachers with an alternative and innovative instructional strategy that enhances both engagement and comprehension in science classes
