Abstract
Kinetics for the oxidation of L-tryptophan in a sulphuric acid medium by 1,1,3,3, -tetramethylguanidinium chlorochromate [TMGCC] has been investigated. The results of the experiment suggest that the intermediate complex formed between the protonated L-tryptophan and TMGCC, then decomposes in the rate-determining step to give the reaction products. The final oxidation products received were identified as indole-3-acetaldehyde, NH4+, and CO2. First-order dependence on TMGCC, and a fractional order dependence on L-tryptophan have been found for the reaction. The thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, entropy, and free energy were evaluated accordingly. A suitable mechanism has been proposed for the reaction.
