Abstract
This study aims to examine the concepts of family structure presented in two of the world's greatest ethical texts, the Thirukkural and the Holy Qur'an, from a comparative perspective. The family is the fundamental unit of human society and serves as the foundation for personal morality, social responsibility, love, compassion, culture, and spiritual life. In this context, the study focuses on the similarities and differences in the ideas concerning family life as expressed in these two texts. The Thirukkural explains family life based on humanistic ethical principles, emphasizing domestic virtue, the husband–wife relationship, the value of children, love, hospitality, moral conduct, and righteousness. In contrast, the Holy Qur'an regards the family as a sacred institution established by God and elaborates on marriage, the rights and responsibilities of spouses, parent–child relationships, inheritance, social responsibility, and God-consciousness (taqwa).
