Perceived Impact of in-Service Training on the Quality Nursing Care Outcome on the Clinical Competence of Staff Nurses

To develop clinical competence, in-service trainings are essential to help nurses stay current, use evidence-based practices, and ensure patient safety. There is a scarcity of studies on the interrelationship among profile, perceived impact of in-service training on quality nursing care outcomes, and clinical competence among nurses. This quantitative study utilizes the descriptive correlational design to assess the interrelationship among profile, perceived impact of in-service training on quality nursing care outcomes, and clinical competence among 90 nurses in a private hospital in Cebu. Findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents were aged 18 to 35 years old, female, and with a bachelor’s degree. Majority had served for one to three years and were assigned to the wards. Majority of the nurses had a high perception about the impact of in-service training programs on quality nursing care outcomes. Also, majority of them had a high level of clinical competence. The profile of age, sex, educational attainment, years of service, and area of assignment did not correlate with perceived impact on in-service training programs on the quality of nursing care outcomes and clinical competence. However, the perceived impact on service training programs on quality nursing care outcomes was significantly correlated with clinical competence. As a result. a clinical competence sustenance plan was proposed.
