Abstract

The researcher aimed to develop and validate a Psychological Well-Being scale for Filipino teenagers based on Seligman’s PERMA-H Model and Ryff’s Six-Dimensional Model. Descriptive quantitative research design, and simple randomization as sampling technique was used, with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) for determining the underlying factor structure. The development of survey questionnaire involved item generation, expert validation, pilot testing, and final validation.
A total of 365 Filipino teenagers aged 13–19 from the Philippine Women’s College of Davao participated in the primary study, while 67 were involved in pilot testing to assess item clarity and reliability. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity confirmed data suitability for factor analysis. Using a factor loading cutoff of ≥ 0.40 and iterative extraction procedures, items were refined, resulting in eleven underlying factors: Accomplishment, Autonomy, Engagement, Environmental Mastery, Health, Meaning, Personal Growth, Positive and Negative Emotion, Positive Relationship with others, Purpose in life, Self-Acceptance.
Findings show that psychological well-being among Filipino adolescents is a multidimensional construct. The scale demonstrated strong validity and reliability, supporting its use in assessing adolescent well-being. The study recommends school-based programs promoting holistic well-being, health practices, and autonomy development.
