Abstract
This descriptive, non-experimental study aimed to assess the level of knowledge, identify and determine the factors influencing adherence to standard precautions amongst health workers in Biu General Hospital, Borno State, and to sensitise them on the need to comply with standard precautions. A cross-sectional descriptive study will be used. Self-administered questionnaires will be distributed to the health workers in Biu General Hospital.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Health workers in Biu General Hospital were given self-administered questionnaires.
Results: 167 questionnaires were distributed, and 145 of them were returned, yielding a response rate of 86.8 per cent. Most respondents' departments were recorded. This indicates that the departments/wards were all included in the study.
Demographically, by years of experience, most respondents had 1-5 years or 15 years or more, with 11-14 years the lowest response. Based on the demographic data presented, the respondents are ideal for the study, and their responses can be relied upon to generalise the population's perception.
