Abstract

This study presents the development of a Learning Management System (LMS) for the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, aimed at enhancing digital teaching and learning processes. The system was developed using Python as the core programming language for logic and application control, while MySQL was employed for efficient data storage, management and retrieval. The LMS supports essential academic functions, including course management, content delivery, assessment and communication between lecturers and students of the institution. A systematic evaluation of the developed LMS was conducted using key performance indicators, namely usability, reliability, flexibility, adaptability and portability. The results revealed a 96% usability performance, indicating a highly user-friendly interface; a 92% reliability score, demonstrating consistent and stable system operation; 88% flexibility, reflecting support for diverse instructional methods; 87% adaptability, showing the system’s capacity for future upgrades and institutional changes and 97% portability, confirming effective performance across multiple devices and platforms. These indicators yielded an overall general performance rating of 92%. The findings demonstrate that the use of Python and MySQL for building an LMS is efficient, reliable and suitable for deployment of an LMS in an academic environment, the system provides a scalable and sustainable digital learning platform that can significantly improve academic delivery and institutional efficiency.
