Abstract

This study documented the oral stories about Tidong (Tikbalang) encounter in Makate Island, Sulat, Eastern Samar and turned these stories into multimedia output. Using a qualitative, practice-based research design through a modified ADDIE framework, the researchers have conducted interviews with elders, storytellers, and locals knowledgeable about the oral history in order to substantiate the accounts of the creature’s origin, physical traits, supernatural abilities, behaviors, and cultural significance. The documented stories were converted into visual images and narratives: character sketches, character designs, and story booklet of Tidong, with careful consideration to represent the local oral history. The generated material were evaluated with DepEd Region III Nueva Ecija Evaluation Rating Sheet for Storybooks and Big Books scoring excellent in both content (grand mean = 4.8) and technical aspects (grand mean = 4.6), indicating its acceptability to be used in educational and cultural records. To conclude, researchers revealed that cultural through digital illustration allows preservation of indigenous stories to be presented to a modern audience while upholding the values it represents. The researchers study achieved its objectives which presents a unique way of documenting.
