Abstract

Educational institutions continue to rely on conventional notice boards to disseminate information to students and staff. Traditional notice boards involve manual preparation and posting of printed notices, resulting in delays, increased paper consumption, and limited accessibility, particularly for students who are off-campus or unable to visit the physical board regularly. With the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and speech recognition technologies, educational communication systems can be transformed into intelligent digital platforms that operate with minimal manual effort. This paper presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a Voice-Controlled Smart Notice Board built using IoT technology. The proposed system employs an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with a microphone module and a cloud-based speech recognition service to convert spoken announcements into text in real time. The recognized text is displayed instantly on an electronic display while simultaneously being stored in a Firebase Cloud Database, enabling students to access current and archived notices through a companion mobile application. The prototype was implemented and tested in a live classroom setting emphasizing affordability, ease of deployment, and real-time communication. Experimental evaluation indicates that the proposed system reduces notice publication time by nearly 90 percent compared with manual methods, achieves a mean speech recognition accuracy above 85 percent under normal classroom conditions, eliminates recurring paper costs, and supports multilingual communication. The solution contributes toward affordable, sustainable, and intelligent educational infrastructure aligned with the broader goals of Education 4.0.
