Key Words: Challenges, Ghana’s Voters’ Register

I. INTRODUCTION

The issue of a credible voters register has always been a huge challenge for Ghana’s Electoral Commission. The reasons being: bloated register (full of ghost names), multiple registration and the registration of minors. However, there is no gainsaying that the conduct of incontrovertible elections, to a greater extent, depends on the credibility of the voters’ register. The voters’ register is used for budgeting for election materials, determining the total votes cast and distributing of election materials to polling centres. It could be seen that the introduction of administrative, statutory and technological reforms in the registration processes and procedures to check to challenges of the voters’ register.
Voter Registration is the process of compiling prospective voters’ particulars to produce an Electoral Roll called the Voters’ Register. For an election to be free, fair, transparent, credible and incontrovertible there must be a Voters’ Register which is complete and acceptable to all stakeholders. This could be possible if the Voter Registration process was free from all challenges.
