Abstract– The performance of a transmission line depends on parameters of line. Transmission line has four electrical parameters. They are resistance, inductance, capacitance and conductance. The inductance and capacitance are due to the effect of magnetic fields around the conductor. The parameters R, L and C are essential for the development of the transmission line model to be used in power system analysis both during planning and operation stages. While the resistance of the conductor is best determined from manufacturer data, the inductance and capacitance can be evaluated using appropriate formula. The aim of the experiment is to determine the positive sequence line parameters, L and C per phase per kilometer of a single phase and three phase transmission lines using MATLAB

Keywords– Inductance, Capacitance, Single phase and Three phase transmission line

I. INTRODUCTION

Transmission lines are the conductors which carry electrical signals over long distances with minimum distortion and loss of energy. Resistance is one of the important electrical parameter which is defined as the property of the material which limits the flow of current in the circuit and hence protects the circuit elements. Its SI unit is ohms. Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance which is the property of the material which allows the current to flow through it. Its SI unit is mho or Siemens. The capability of storing electrical charges by two conducting plates is known as capacitance. The capacitance between the conductors depends on conductor size, spacing and height upon the ground. Its SI unit is Farads. A current carrying conductor produces a magnetic field around the conductor. When the current changes the change in flux induces a voltage in the circuit. The inductance is nothing but flux linkage per ampere. Its SI unit is Henry.
