Abstract
This study examines the level of satisfaction among the senior citizens in Nepal regarding the social security allowance program. It is vital to understand the effectiveness of the program which is actually serving those who need it most, something that is secured by the Constitution of Nepal under its fundamental right. Using a survey-based approach, this research analyzes how three main factors: allowance sufficiency, access to payment, and administrative efficiency, affect the overall satisfaction of the elderly.
The study focuses on senior citizens living in care homes within the Banepa and Kathmandu valley. The results show that allowance sufficiency and administrative efficiency are the two most important factors that make senior citizens feel satisfied with the program. Interestingly, while the move to a bank-based payment system has made the process smoother, physical access to banks did not show a statistically significant impact on overall satisfaction. This suggests that simple process of collecting money is not enough if the amount is perceived as insufficient, or if administrative issues remain intact. The study concludes that to improve the lives of the elderly people, the government must prioritize increasing the allowance to keep up with rising costs, and continue to simplify the administrative processes involved in delivering allowance, while actively accessing and monitoring the overall allowance program in ground level.
