Abstract

This study explored the implementation of the Barangay-Level Feeding Program in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, focusing on the practices, challenges, and insights of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs). A qualitative descriptive research design was employed. Ten BNSs from the most populous barangays in Tagum City were purposively selected as key informants based on their direct involvement in program implementation. Data were collected through semi-structured Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis framework. To ensure trustworthiness, the study employed purposive sampling, expert review of the interview guide, audio-recorded interviews, and systematic documentation of data collection and analysis procedures. Findings showed that program implementation involved systematic program management, technology-assisted data management, sanitary and nutritious food preparation, and community participation. Major challenges included beneficiary non-cooperation, logistical and resource constraints, and limited parental engagement. The findings also underscored the importance of responsible parenting, collaborative partnerships, coordinated planning, and community empowerment in sustaining program effectiveness. The study concludes that while the program generally complies with national nutrition standards, improvements in parental involvement, monitoring systems, and inter-agency collaboration are needed to enhance efficiency and sustainability. The findings may inform policy enhancement and future community-based nutrition interventions.
