Abstract
The population continues to grow older as a result of life expectancy increases. Children who have complicated life patterns typically ignore their elders. The number of elderly people residing in assisted living centers is increasing as a result. A study was carried out to describe health issues that older people had in their homes. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of depression in elderly people and to identify the risk factors. Forty elderly people over fifty-five years of age who were institutionalized in three randomly chosen "Homes for the Elders" in the Kalutara area participated in descriptive cross-sectional research. Sociodemographic instruments were used to conduct an interview.
