Abstract
The digital age’s rapid information spread fuels viralism unchecked circulation of misinformation and unethical content eroding morality and social harmony, especially among Muslim youth. Existing legal and educational measures often overlook deeper issues of spiritual imbalance and weak self-regulation. This study aims to identify the mechanisms and contributing factors of digital viralism and analyze the psychosufistic approach as a potent, holistic solution. Employing a thematic analysis of relevant literature and textual sources, the study focuses on the core elements of the Sufi tradition including tazkiyat al-nafs (purification of the soul), maqāmāt (spiritual stations), and aḥwāl (spiritual states). These components of psychosufism are essential for cultivating positive internal values in Islam. Collectively, these values are demonstrated to enhance psychological resilience and promote ethical digital engagement. Findings suggest that psychosufistic practices serve a dual function, (i) they act as a spiritual-psychological therapy for anxiety and moral decline, and (ii) they are effective preventive and educational tools for cultivating disciplined, ethical, and responsible digital citizenship. The study concludes that the integration of psychosufistic principles offers a holistic framework for comprehensively addressing viralism, significantly contributing to the spiritual, psychological, and moral well-being of Muslim society in the digital era.
