Abstract
This conceptual paper explains how creative writing contributes to development in Malaysia through educational, psychological, social, and cultural pathways. It synthesises peer-reviewed open-access journal articles published from 2024 to 2026. Recent evidence links structured writing with narrative competence, reflection, confidence, social participation, cultural representation, and multimodal production. The proposed framework connects these contributions to individual, community, and national development while treating the relationships as reciprocal rather than automatic. Outcomes depend on equitable access, ethical facilitation, infrastructure, cultural authority, continuity, and institutional coordination. The paper concludes with implications for education, well-being practice, community programmes, cultural stewardship, and creative-industry policy, followed by priorities for longitudinal Malaysian research.
