Abstract

Creativity in product design problem solving is often discussed through separate concerns such as problem framing, ideation and form development, resulting in limited conceptual clarity on how these processes interact. This conceptual paper aims to develop a framework that explains creativity as an integrated process through which designers interpret design problems, generate alternative ideas and transform abstract concepts into meaningful product forms. The study adopts a theory-driven, non-empirical methodology based on literature identification, conceptual analysis and synthesis of relevant theories, models and prior studies. The findings indicate that creativity becomes stronger when problem framing, ideation and creative form development are connected through iterative feedback, critical evaluation and attention to user meaning. The proposed framework contributes to design creativity literature by defining key constructs, specifying theoretical propositions and offering practical implications for product design education, studio practice and creativity assessment.
