Abstract

Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is emerging as an attractive alternative to conventional education in most countries. TVET is no longer being perceived as secondary option leading to a career path but an attractive route as a career choice among many youths and people of all ages. Institutions embracing the TVET domain need to not only equip themselves with the best and the right strategies on teaching and learning with focusses on delivery and learning activities but on other elements of the academic system which have critical and direct impact on the overall quality of the education provided to the students. TVET education must be led by people of strategic leadership qualities to oversee strategic transformation of the institution to ensure high-quality academic system and institutional growth that meet the expectations of all stakeholders in the face of rapid technology advancement, ever increasing industrial needs and demands, and the perception of society. This paper presents issues that hindered the potential growth of TVET institutions and proposes strategies based on organizational transformation, risk analysis and management, while focusing on the TVET institutional leadership quality as catalyst for growth and excellence.
