Abstract
Part-time employment has become a widespread phenomenon among university students worldwide, driven by rising living costs and the need for financial independence. While such work provides opportunities to gain income, practical experience, and transferable skills, it also poses risks to students’ academic performance and well-being. This study analyzes the impact of part-time jobs on Vietnamese students’ learning outcomes, situating the findings within global evidence. International research shows that moderate work can enhance career readiness and soft skills, but excessive hours are associated with reduced academic achievement (Callender, 2008; Darolia, 2014). The paper highlights both positive and negative effects, including financial support, skill development, stress, fatigue, and diminished study time. Policy recommendations are proposed for universities and students to balance employment and education, ensuring that part-time work contributes to lifelong learning and employability without undermining academic success.
