Abstract

This study aimed to assess the PNP's knowledge about different multicultural backgrounds in connection with improving PNP strategies. The researcher sought to determine if police officers know about different cultures, since it is essential, especially in Mindanao, which consists of different cultures. This study consists of 280 police officers (140 females & 140 males) from various ranks and stations within the Butuan City. The research methodology included self-reported surveys and potentially observational assessments, each designed to gather insights into officers' perceptions and understanding of cultural diversity.
The study used a random sampling method to ensure that all relevant subgroups of the police force are represented, including officers of varying ranks, regions, and years of service. The aim was to obtain a sample size that reflects the diversity of the Philippine police force and allows for statistically significant results. The instrument was structured as a survey questionnaire and consist of three key sections: Demographic Profile, Knowledge of Multicultural Approaches, and Application of Multicultural Strategies in Law Enforcement.
The results indicated that many officers agreed that they have received training on multicultural approaches and recognize the influence of cultural differences on law enforcement. However, a notable portion of respondents also expressed challenges in adapting their policing strategies to different cultural groups, with some perceiving cultural diversity as complicating police work rather than improving outcomes. Furthermore, concerns about bias in law enforcement operations were identified, suggesting the need for more standardized, fair, and culturally sensitive policing tactics.
