Ethical Leadership, Corporate Governance and Accountability in Local Government Sector in the Bono East Region

The study assessed the influence of ethical leadership, corporate governance, and accountability in some selected public sector organizations in the Bono East Region of Ghana. In essence, the study assessed the implementation of corporate governance practices, analyzed the level of accountability within these organizations, and evaluated the relationship between these variables under consideration. The study employed a quantitative research design which is descriptive in nature. Primary data was gathered from employees of selected public sector organizations using structured questionnaires. Respondents were chosen for the study using purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Data was analyzed using SPSS. The result indicated that ethical leadership, corporate governance, and accountability exhibited moderate levels within these organizations. The study further identified a high positive relationship between ethical leadership and corporate governance, ethical leadership and accountability, as well as corporate governance and accountability. The dimensions of ethical leadership including role modeling, communication, and reinforcement were shown to have considerable impact on accountability and effectiveness of governance. This study therefore concludes that ethical leadership and effective corporate governance are critical to ensuring transparency, integrity, and accountability in public organizations. It is recommended that public sector entities should ensure effective training on ethical leadership, effective governance, and accountability systems.
