Abstract

The study was initiated based on classroom observations and discussions with the subject teacher. The researcher found that many students face significant challenges such as sentence formation, spelling, grammar, and handwriting errors- while writing in the Odia language. Khannagar govt. High School, Cuttack, class IX students are taken as the population for this study. Purposive sampling method was used to select 7 students from Class IX of Khannagar govt. high school. To improve pupils' understanding of letter structures and word creation, multi-sensory writing methods were introduced, including oral dictation and tactile letter production, offering ongoing practice and feedback. Group activities were employed, such as teacher-led writing circles, peer writing projects, and organized daily writing assignments. The findings showed that the students' writing abilities had significantly improved. Errors were lower in the end-line test than in the baseline evaluation. Sentence structure improved, handwriting errors were significantly reduced, grammatical errors decreased, and spelling mistakes were minimized. Students' confidence in their writing skills increased as a result of the methodical and consistent practice. Peer cooperation also promoted active engagement and self-correction by creating a positive learning atmosphere. According to the results, even in classes with limited resources using action research incorporating with multi-sensory and collaborative approaches can help pupils to improve their writing abilities.
