Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive 15-year thematic literature review evaluating the internationalisation strategies, entry modes, dynamic capabilities, and institutional drivers of Chinese textile and garment Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This study synthesizes empirical scholarship published over the past fifteen years, with particular emphasis on recent findings from 2024 through 2026. The paper establishes a curated Literature Matrix cataloguing representative empirical studies across sample contexts, theoretical frameworks, core variables, methodologies, and key findings. The thematic synthesis organizes literature across five conceptual pillars: institutional policy push and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) trade corridors, platform-mediated cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) ecosystems, AI-driven dynamic supply chain agility, regional outward FDI as institutional escape, and foreign trade friction alongside European Union ESG mandates. A detailed methodological critique evaluates research designs and sampling biases across Chinese coastal and inland industrial clusters, concluding with narrative strategic implications for SME executive management and industrial policy.
