Abstract
The paper examines job satisfaction among employees in the fashion retail sector in Bangladesh, focusing on gender differences in overall and facet level satisfaction. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 197 employees from 18 fashion brand outlets using a structured questionnaire capturing a global index of job satisfaction and seven facets. Overall job satisfaction and seven job‑satisfaction facets were measured with multi‑item scales. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and inferential methods, including regression analysis and the Mann-Whitney U test. Descriptive results show moderate overall satisfaction. Multiple regression with standardized estimates highlights that salary, workload, and job security are the strongest predictors of the global index, while management behavior and promotion/growth have smaller positive effects. Physical environment and co-worker support, although rated highly, do not add explanatory power once other facets are accounted for. Mann-Whitney tests reveal no statistically significant gender differences in overall satisfaction or any specific facet. This study adds employee‑centered evidence from South Asian fashion retail, suggests boundary conditions on gender–satisfaction asymmetries, and highlights practical levers for raising satisfaction in emerging‑market retailing.
