Abstract

This study investigated the influence of organizational trust on job stress among bank employees in Warri, Delta State. Specifically, the study examined three dimensions of organizational trust, trust in managers, trust in the organization, and trust in co-workers, and how each predicts levels of job-related stress among employees. The study was prompted by increasing concerns about mental health and work-related stress in the banking sector, which is known for its high demands and pressure-laden environment. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and the entire population of 410 bank employees was used for the study due to the manageable population size. Out of 410 structured questionnaire instrument, only 316 were found useable for analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression analysis with the aid of STATA version 15. The results revealed that trust in managers and trust in the organization had significant positive effects in reducing job stress, with coefficients of 0.455 and 0.445 respectively, both statistically significant at the 0.000 level. However, trust in co-workers, with a coefficient of 0.078 and a p-value of 0.148, did not significantly affect job stress. It was recommended that banks in Warri should build trustworthy managerial practices and institutional policies that demonstrate care, fairness, and employee involvement. Strengthening these trust factors can promote employee well-being, reduce burnout, and improve overall organizational performance.
