Abstract

Short-form content platforms like TikTok, Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts have experienced rapid expansion, raising concerns about their effects on people’s attention spans and workplace productivity. The research investigated how short-form content consumption affects workplace productivity, with attention span as a mediating factor, among 100 Filipino working adults in a quantitative study. The research used self-administered surveys with standardized questions and proven Likert-scale instruments to obtain data, which researchers analyzed with descriptive statistics and mediation analysis. The research findings showed that participants engaged heavily in short-form content consumption but still maintained their office productivity and attention spans, which reached their peak. The research results showed that watching short-form content at work does not directly affect job performance, and people's ability to focus does not mediate the relationship between these two factors. The research data showed that workplace productivity is directly related to attention span, with a positive association. Research shows that daily short-video viewers stay productive because they have developed digital content management skills, and their work success depends on their ability to concentrate rather than on their screen time.
