Abstract

The present study is developmental research sought to develop and produce Self-instructional Modules in FORENSIC 2 Personal Identification. The designed modules covered 13 chapters namely: The Origin of Fingerprints, Fingerprint and Friction Skin, Fingerprint Patterns, Ridge Characteristics, Core and Deltas, Ridge Counting and Ridge Tracing, Techniques in Taking Fingerprint, Classification of Fingerprints, Fingerprint Classification Formulas, and Classifying Amputated Fingers. The development of the instructional modules was done during the First Semester of the Academic Year 2024-2025. This research adopted the Input-Process-Output-Outcome (IPPO) Model of Brown (1996) to demonstrate the design-develop-evaluate phases of module-making. The SIMs were designed to be use by the first-year students in the Bachelor of Science in Criminology Major in General Curriculum. In designing the modules, CHED Memorandum No. 24, Series of 2017 and Outcome Based-Syllabus in Forensic 2 served as the basis for the content and competencies included. The modules were evaluated by the experts composed of a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management and Doctor of Criminology, Deans of Various Criminology Schools in Negros Occidental who are experts in the Field of Forensic Dactyloscopy (Personal Identification) studies. The instrument adopted from the study of Pillarina (2021) which assessed five aspects of the modules such as the objectives, contents, format and language, presentation, and usefulness. Results revealed an excellent rating on the five aspects resulting in an overall rating interpreted as excellent. Thus, this confirms that the developed and designed self-instructional modules are of good quality to be used for instructions.
