Abstract

Strategic planning is essential as it considers various alternative courses of action and possible effects on the performance of staff who are critical to the success of any organization. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of strategic planning on the performance of academic staff in Nile University, Abuja, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design will be used for the study and a population of 150 respondents was used for the study. A sample size of 150 was determined using the census sampling technique. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using multiple regression via the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27. Findings revealed that strategic planning has a significant effect on staff performance at (R=.834, R2=.696. at p=0.032). The statistical results show that strategic planning accounts for 69.6 % of variations in staff performance in Nile University of Nigeria. Findings also showed that performance (effectiveness) = 2.374+0.158@p=0.019 (strategy), 2.374+0.023@p=0.939 (tactics) and 2.374+0.334@p=0.013 (approach). The study therefore concluded that strategic planning has a positive, significant and insignificant effect on staff performance in Nile University of Nigeria and recommended that management should ensure that strategic planning in terms of their strategy, tactics and approach aligns effectively with employee goals and objectives in order to boost employee morale and overall performance levels.
