Abstract
Nigeria is a country highly blessed with abundant human and natural resources. The population strength and economic relevance of Nigeria to the globe have made it to be once regarded as the giant of Africa. However, following the recent insecurity and economic instability that have bedevilled the country, it has become absolutely difficult to say that the country’s strength lies in its diversity. This paper has made some significant efforts to look into the past and the current situations of Nigeria with the view to determine how bad governance, insecurity, ethnicity and religious challenges have plunged Nigeria into its current state of dilemma. The paper recommends national identity, true federalism, accountability and an independent judiciary as panaceas to unite and rescue Nigeria from its fragile state.
