Abstract
The protracted civil war in Sudan has triggered intertwined political, security, and humanitarian crises that erode state integrity and pose significant risks to regional stability in Africa. This article examines the repercussions of the Sudanese civil war on African stability across three interlinked dimensions: regional security, socio-economic robustness, and the performance of regional and international mechanisms for conflict management. Employing a qualitative descriptive method that draws on literature reviews, policy papers, and reports issued by regional and international organizations, the study identifies a range of spillover effects, including refugee movements, cross-border arms trafficking, and the rise of transnational armed actors. The findings indicate that the conflict in Sudan undermines regional security architectures, overloads the capacities of neighboring states, disrupts trade networks and development initiatives, and challenges the credibility of institutions such as the African Union and IGAD in mediating and enforcing peace settlements. The article contends that, in the absence of coherent and coordinated regional strategies, the Sudanese civil war may entrench pockets of chronic instability that spread to other parts of the continent. Consequently, reinforcing preventive diplomacy, inclusive peace processes, and comprehensive post-conflict reconstruction is essential for preserving Africa’s long-term regional stability.
