The Methodology of Content Organisation, Evidential Reasoning, and Writing Style in Taqrīb Al-ʾIkhwān Fī Taʿallum ʿAqaʾid Al-ʾĪmān by Shaykh Abdul Qadir Bin Wangah

Taqrīb al-ʾIkhwān Fī Taʿallum ʿAqāʾid al-ʾĪmān is one of the scholarly works of Shaykh Abdul Qadir bin Wangah that played a significant role in disseminating the creed of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah among Muslim communities in the Malay World, particularly in Patani. Nevertheless, studies examining the methodology employed in the composition of this work remain limited. This article therefore aims to analyse the methodology adopted by Shaykh Abdul Qadir in this work from three principal perspectives: the organisation of content, the approach to evidential reasoning, and the writing style. This study employs a qualitative library-based research approach by analysing the primary text of the treatise as its main source, while relevant works on Islamic theology (ʿaqīdah) and related scholarly studies are consulted as secondary sources. The data were analysed using descriptive and thematic content analysis. The findings reveal that the contents of the treatise are systematically organised into five major sections. In terms of evidential methodology, both textual evidence (dalīl naqlī) and rational evidence (dalīl ʿaqlī) are employed in establishing the attributes of Allah and His Messengers. With regard to writing style, the use of everyday language and a wide range of illustrative comparisons facilitates the communication of theological concepts. In conclusion, the methodology adopted in this treatise demonstrates Shaykh Abdul Qadir's ability to integrate scholarly rigour with an effective and accessible approach to theological writing.
