Abstract
This study examines the relationship between students’ Group Discussion Method On Enhancing English-Speaking Performance: A Quantitative Study among junior high school students at EBC 01 Bai Metak, Viqueque Municipality, Timor-Leste. A quantitative questionnaire survey was conducted with 51 students selected from a population of 341 students in Grades VII–IX through proportionate stratified random sampling. The questionnaire was designed to measure students’ perceptions of group discussion and their self-reported speaking performance using a four-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The manuscript reports a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.741; however, the number of items reported in the reliability output (19) does not match the 18 items described in the methodology and must be verified against the original instrument and SPSS output. The current draft also contains inconsistent t-statistics across the results and conclusion sections. Therefore, the inferential results must be rechecked before a definitive statistical conclusion can be reported. Because the study uses a single questionnaire and does not include a speaking test, pretest–posttest assessment, or control group, the findings should be interpreted as evidence about students’ perceptions and self-reports rather than proof that group discussion causes improvements in speaking performance.
