Abstract

This research report explores the influence of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices on employee retention and engagement within the Lusaka Provincial Administration. In an era where sustainable development and environmental stewardship are paramount, organizations must seamlessly integrate eco-friendly practices into their human resource frameworks. GHRM encompasses a range of initiatives designed to foster environmental sustainability while enhancing organizational culture, thereby promoting higher levels of employee retention and engagement.
A mixed method approach was employed to achieve a comprehensive understanding of GHRM’s impact. The study used purposive sampling to select a representative group of employees and key HR stakeholders within the Lusaka Provincial administration. Quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires designed to assess current GHRM practices and their perceived effectiveness on retention and engagement .Qualitative data were gathered via in depth interviews with HR managers and employees to explore the practical challenges experiences of implementing GHRM initiatives.
Data analysis combined statistical techniques for survey responses, including descriptive and inferential statics, with thematic analysis for interpreting qualitative data. This integrate analysis enabled the identification of prevailing GHRM practices, their effects on employee outcomes, and the barriers that hinder their successful adoption.
Findings aim to provide actionable insights for policymakers and HR practitioners to enhance environmental sustainability in workforce management, contributing to national sustainability goals while improving employee retention and engagement. This research highlights the critical role of GHRM n aligning organizational objectives with broader societal environmental commitments, demonstrating that sustainable HR practices can cultivate a motivated and environmentally conscious workforce.
