Abstract

This study examined the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting innovation within vocational education and its contribution to national development. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, involving 186 respondents drawn from vocational and technical education institutions in Plateau State, Nigeria. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics, including mean scores and standard deviation; regression analysis was used to test the research hypotheses. Findings revealed a high level of awareness and adoption of AI, significant influence of AI on innovation in vocational education, and a strong positive relationship between AI adoption and national development. The study concludes that artificial intelligence is a critical driver of skills development, workforce competitiveness, and economic growth. It recommends increased institutional support, policy frameworks, and capacity building to enhance AI integration in vocational education.
