Abstract
Supply chain–logistics integration refers to the strategic coordination and synchronization of logistics activities (transportation, warehousing, inventory management) with overall supply chain processes such as procurement, production, and distribution. It emphasizes seamless collaboration among internal departments and external partners including suppliers and customers. Supply chain integration (SCI) is defined as the alignment of processes, information, and decision-making across the entire supply chain network to ensure efficient flow of goods, services, and information.
The theoretical foundation of this study is rooted in systems theory, resource-based view (RBV), and network theory. Systems theory suggests that organizations operate as interconnected systems where efficiency depends on coordination among subsystems. In the context of supply chains, logistics functions must be integrated with procurement, production, and distribution to avoid inefficiencies. The RBV theory highlights that integrated supply chain capabilities, such as information sharing, collaboration, and coordination, serve as strategic resources that enhance competitive advantage. Logistics integration specifically focuses on collaboration between firms and logistics service providers, ensuring synchronization of intra- and inter-organizational processes. It involves coordination between logistics, marketing, and information technology functions to improve operational efficiency. Supply chain integration consists of three dimensions: internal integration, supplier integration, and customer integration, all of which collectively improve operational and financial performance. Furthermore, sustainability theory plays a crucial role in modern supply chains. Sustainable supply chain management incorporates environmental, social, and economic considerations to ensure long-term business success. Integration enables transparency, resource optimization, and reduced environmental impact. Thus, the interrelationship between supply chain and logistics integration is critical for achieving efficiency, responsiveness, and sustainable business performance in today’s competitive and dynamic environment.
