Abstract
ABSTRACT
This article examined the influence of three developing technologies in the oil and gas industry concerning non-productive time (NPT), equipment failure, and subsea inspection. The factors influencing the efficiency of the oil and gas industry include New Generation Robotics and Mechatronics in Offshore Drilling and Automation, Artificial Intelligence for Equipment Maintenance, and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.
This work incorporates material from industry reports, scholarly articles, and technical papers to analyze AI in the petroleum sector about the entire digitization of oil exploration.
Current studies indicate that the application of intelligent algorithms for maintenance has resulted in a 42% reduction in failure rates and an extension of machinery lifespan in the offshore drilling sector, while drilling efficiency decreased by 35% and accident rates were also diminished. Subsea robots, particularly autonomous underwater vehicles, have mitigated drilling-related dangers by decreasing the need for human divers by approximately 60%. Nonetheless, factors such as cybersecurity in offshore automation, regulatory obstacles in offshore automation, and the necessity to equip the existing labor for automation indicate that this potential is not fully actualized globally
The study provides directives for governance and policies primarily at the global scale, proposes artificial intelligence solutions for cybersecurity, and recommends staff training for automation to enhance technology adoption. Further research should be undertaken on the comparative examination of automation adoption in various oil-producing regions. By overcoming these hurdles, the primary objectives of safety, sustainability, and efficient long-term digitization within the offshore oil and gas sector can be realized.
