Logistic Efficiency and Humanitarian Aid Delivery Among Humanitarian Organizations in Mogadishu, Somalia

Abstract
Purpose: This study examined the effect of logistics efficiency on humanitarian aid delivery among humanitarian organizations operating in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study adopted a positivist philosophy and a deductive, explanatory cross-sectional research design. A sample of 222 respondents was determined from a target population of 500 employees of humanitarian organizations using Slovin's formula, and data were collected through structured questionnaires (209 distributed, 204 returned, 97.6% response rate) and semi-structured key informant interviews (13 targeted, 10 completed, 76.9% response rate). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and simple linear regression in IBM SPSS Statistics.
Findings: Logistics efficiency and humanitarian aid delivery were both rated highly by respondents (Mean = 4.4302 and Mean = 4.3668, respectively). A very strong, positive, and statistically significant correlation was found between the two variables (r = .815, p < .001). Regression analysis confirmed that logistics efficiency significantly predicts humanitarian aid delivery (β = .815, t = 20.017, p < .001), explaining 66.4% of the variance in humanitarian aid delivery (R² = .664; Adjusted R² = .662; F = 400.693, p < .001), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis.
Originality/Value: This study provides empirical, field-based evidence on the logistics-delivery relationship within humanitarian operations in Mogadishu, an urban, fragile, and conflict-affected setting that remains underrepresented in the humanitarian logistics literature, and integrates the Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities Theory to explain how logistics capabilities translate into humanitarian outcomes under conditions of insecurity and resource constraint.
