Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and the academic achievement of Senior High School students at a public Senior High School in the Division of Negros Occidental during the School Year 2025–2026. Specifically, it examined students’ demographic profiles, the extent of AI influence across key learning domains, academic achievement, and variations in both AI impact and performance across selected variables. Results indicated that most respondents were female students enrolled in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand, predominantly from low-income households with parents who had attained secondary education. Despite these constraints, AI demonstrated a significant impact, significantly enhancing students’ access to information, engagement, task efficiency, motivation, and self-directed learning. AI also facilitated collaboration through digital platforms, although it was less effective in fostering direct social interaction and providing personalized career guidance. The respondents achieved a mean grade of 87.09, interpreted as very satisfactory. Inferential analysis revealed no significant differences in AI impact across sex, strand, family income, and parental educational attainment, highlighting AI's inclusivity as a learning resource. However, significant differences in academic achievement were observed across academic strands and parental education levels. The findings suggest that while AI is a valuable and accessible educational tool that supports improved academic outcomes, excessive reliance on it may hinder the development of higher-order thinking skills. The study underscores the need for balanced AI integration, guided instructional practices, and the incorporation of AI literacy in the curriculum to optimize its educational benefits while addressing potential limitations.
