Abstract

This study determined the performance in solving both routine and non-routine mathematical problems of Grade 4 pupils in relation to selected variables in upland elementary schools in Negros Occidental for school year 2025-2026. The instrument was carefully designed to measure proficiency in solving both routine problems and non-routine problems. The Grade 4 pupils were predominantly female, were mostly 9 years old, and generally fell within the normal nutritional status. The overall performance of Grade 4 pupils in routine problem solving was average and a low level in non-routine problem-solving yielded. The statistical analysis revealed no significant difference in the performance of routine problem solving of male and female groups, age groups, and among different nutritional status. The analysis also revealed no significant difference in the performance of non-routine problem solving of male and female groups, among the age groups, and across nutritional status.
