Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Utilization and Academic Performance of Pupils

This study examined the ICT Utilization and Academic Performance of Grade Three Pupils in selected public elementary school/s in Bacolod City during School Year 2026–2027. It specifically determined the pupils’ profile, level of ICT utilization, academic performance, and the relationships between ICT utilization and academic performance as well as selected profile variables. The study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design involving 269 Grade Three pupils selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were gathered using a researcher-made questionnaire validated by five experts and obtained an overall Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.91, indicating excellent reliability. Academic performance was based on approved official school records. Findings revealed that the pupils demonstrated a high level of ICT utilization, with an overall weighted mean of 4.02 (SD = 0.23) across the dimensions of Good Use of ICT, ICT Helps Me Learn, I Use ICT Wisely, and My Feelings About ICT. Their overall academic performance was Outstanding, with a mean of 90.23 (SD = 2.44). However, the results showed no significant relationship between ICT utilization and academic performance (rₛ = 0.00037, p = 0.995). Among the profile variables, sex showed a significant relationship with ICT utilization (p = 0.018), while age, internet access, and frequency of ICT use showed no significant relationships. Access to ICT at home was constant among all respondents and therefore was not subjected to inferential testing. Based on the findings, an ICT Utilization Enhancement Program, Project SMART ICT, was proposed to strengthen responsible, purposeful, safe, and educational technology use among Grade Three pupils.
