The Construction of the Value System of English Language and Literature Courses Based on the Deep Learning Model

ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, big data and other modern technologies, the intelligence of education has become the trend of modern education reform, and the deep learning model, as a representative of the application of artificial intelligence in the field of education, has a natural connection with the construction of the value system of English language and literature courses. This paper analyzes the feasibility and significance of the application of deep learning model in English language and literature from the characteristics of deep learning model, and constructs the value system of English language and literature based on it, aiming to provide more choices for English majors and improve their interest and enthusiasm in learning English language and literature.

INTRODUCTION

English language and literature courses are compulsory for English major students, which are theoretical, practical and humanistic. To some extent, the teaching of English language and literature is the process of cultivating students’ thinking ability of “Language + culture”. Through the study of English language and literature course, English majors can not only master certain language knowledge, but also understand the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, this is of great significance to their future work and life. In recent years, deep learning technology has made significant progress in the field of natural language processing, which has led to the exploration of how deep learning technology can be applied to the teaching of English language and literature courses. English language and literature courses usually involve a large amount of text reading and analysis, so the use of deep learning technology can help students better understand and analyze text content and improve their learning (Wu et al., 2018).

At present, many scholars have conducted research on the application of deep learning model in English language and literature courses from different perspectives. They apply the deep learning model to the teaching process of English language and literature courses, and analyze and solve the problems that exist in the students’ learning process by analyzing the data information generated in the process of students’ English language and literature learning.

CHARACTERISTICS OF DEEP LEARNING

Deep learning is a typical representative of a kind of artificial intelligence applied in the field of education, which is a simulation of the learning laws derived by human experts through practice, similar to the way of human learning. The characteristics of deep learning include the following aspects:

A. Pertinent. The essence of deep learning is to mimic the process of human learning, providing students with personalized learning programs based on their learning ability and knowledge mastery, and in the teaching process, teachers adjust their teaching programs according to the learning characteristics and needs of students at different stages, so that students can master more knowledge and skills through practice, and achieve the real needs of the students.

B. Challenging. Deep learning is not just a simple superposition of the knowledge accumulated in the human learning process, but the formation of a new knowledge system through the processing and integration of knowledge. Therefore, the deep learning model often involves a lot of unknown areas in the research process, which requires teachers to guide the students to improve their cognitive ability through the way of students’ discovering and solving problems on their own..

C. Targeted. Deep learning is designed for different goals to solve problems with different strategies. The process will not reduce the requirements of students’ knowledge and skills just because of a certain task, but to cultivate students’ thinking ability as the main goal. So that students can improve their own ability through continuous problem solving.

D. Feedback. The deep learning model will collect a large amount of data to analyze students’ feedback on knowledge mastery during the research process, and then improve the learning strategy by adjusting the model parameters, and improve the accuracy and robustness of the model in the continuous testing. Therefore, the deep learning model has a strong feedback, which can help teachers grasp the feedback information of students’ knowledge mastery and make corresponding adjustments, so that students can improve their ability level and learning efficiency in continuous trial and error.

TEACHING STATUS AND PROBLEMS

At present, most of the English major students in China’s colleges and universities studying English language and literature courses adopt the traditional teaching mode. The teacher still takes the leading role in the learning process, and the students have low motivation to learn in the classroom. Teachers often focus only on explaining the knowledge of English language and literature in the teaching process, ignoring the learning effect of students. Teachers often use the traditional classroom teaching methods in teaching, the classroom atmosphere is dull, students’ learning enthusiasm is not high, and students’ learning interest cannot be stimulated. In addition, there are still some problems: first, the teaching mode is single, mainly based on the teacher’s lecture; second, the teaching content is relatively single.

Also, at present, the English major students in our colleges and universities have the following problems in the learning process: First, the lack of independent learning ability. Under the traditional teaching mode, students just passively accept knowledge and lack independent learning ability. Second, lack of collaborative communication ability. In the traditional teaching mode, students are not able to actively participate in the classroom for independent exploration and learning. It is difficult for students to combine what they have learned with real life under the traditional teaching mode. Third, lack of lifelong learning consciousness.

OPPORTUNITIES

The introduction of deep learning model provides a new opportunity for English language and literature teaching. With the development of computer technology, artificial intelligence technology continues to mature, and deep learning model, as a representative of the application in the field of artificial intelligence, has gradually been noticed in the field of education. The application of deep learning model in the teaching of English language and literature can realize the rapid, accurate and in-depth learning of students’ knowledge of English language and literature, help teachers find out the problems in students’ learning in time, and effectively consolidate and improve students’ knowledge of English language and literature.

The deep learning model provides personalized teaching for English majors in colleges and universities. Under the traditional English language and literature teaching mode, teachers can only formulate corresponding teaching programs according to their previous teaching experience, but cannot make personalized adjustments and guidance for each student’s learning situation, nor can they effectively assess different students’ language knowledge level and learning ability. The emergence of deep learning model can adjust and optimize the teaching plan according to the students’ different stages of English learning, so that students of different levels and abilities can get personalized guidance. Through the deep learning model, teachers can better understand the learning situation of each student, and effectively consolidate and improve students’ knowledge of English language and literature in a timely manner.

FEASIBILITY AND SIGNIFICANCE

Deep learning model, as a representative of artificial intelligence technology, has certain application value in the field of education. Firstly, deep learning models have powerful data processing ability and can automatically learn the corresponding knowledge according to the input data. Secondly, the deep learning model optimizes the learning effect by constantly adjusting the parameters during the learning process, so that students can better understand what they have learned and promote the realization of the teaching goals of English language and literature. Finally, as a typical application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of education, the deep learning model can be applied to the teaching activities of English language and literature courses, which can not only improve students’ independent learning ability, teamwork ability and problem solving ability, but also further stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning English language and literature.

From the above analysis, it can be seen that the deep learning model has certain application value in English language and literature. Firstly, the deep learning model can automatically assess students’ learning of English language and literature courses; secondly, the deep learning model can improve the teaching efficiency of English language and literature courses and enrich the teaching content; finally, the deep learning model can provide students with more choices and improve their interest and enthusiasm in learning English language and literature. Therefore, the construction of English language and literature value system based on deep learning model can provide more choices for English majors.

DESIGN OF VALUE SYSTEM STRUCTURE

From the purpose of value system construction of English language and literature, the value system of English language and literature need to be divided into four parts:

First, curriculum design. The curriculum of English language and literature mainly includes two parts: “theoretical knowledge” and “practical skills”. The “theoretical knowledge” part includes two major parts of language knowledge and cultural knowledge, while the “practical skills” part mainly includes four aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Second, teachers and students. Teachers are the instructors and guides of students, and students have an irreplaceable role in English language and literature learning. In English language and literature classroom teaching, teachers can make teaching programs suitable for students according to their levels, or use traditional classroom teaching methods to guide students, or use multimedia equipment to provide students with more learning resources and ways. Teachers should communicate more with students to understand their needs for English language and literature courses so as to better meet their learning needs.

Third, curriculum resources include textbooks, various media resources such as the Internet, movie and television works, and various auxiliary learning tools, etc. Teachers can make full use of all kinds of resources when teaching. Teachers can make full use of all kinds of media resources to enrich the content of classroom teaching and provide more learning resources with the help of multimedia technology and network platform. Teachers can also develop more high-quality online course resources with different teaching themes to provide students with more ways and means of learning.

Fourth, learning environment. English Language and Literature is a highly practical subject, which requires students to practice continuously in order to truly master what they have learned. In the English language and literature classroom, teachers can use the network platform to provide students with more learning opportunities and ways. In addition, teachers can also provide students with more practical opportunities in the light of the actual situation of the school.

The value system of English language and literature is structured according to the above four aspects. It includes three parts: theoretical knowledge, practical skills and curriculum resources.

The theoretical knowledge mainly introduces and analyzes the basic theories of English language and literature; the practical skills mainly include four aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing; and the curriculum resources include textbooks, online resources, auxiliary learning tools, etc. The teacher is the main role in this part.

Teachers are the main players in this part, they should give full play to their own knowledge advantages in English language and literature to help students solve the problems encountered in English language and literature learning; at the same time, they should also give full play to the role of the students as the main body of English language and literature learning, to help them better master the knowledge of English language and literature and apply it to practice. Teachers should make full use of all kinds of media resources, network resources and auxiliary learning tools to provide students with more learning resources and ways; at the same time, they should also make use of the actual situation of the school to provide students with more practical opportunities and environments.

CONCLUSIONS

This paper analyzes the feasibility and significance of the application of deep learning model in English language and literature from the characteristics of the deep learning model, and constructs an English language and literature value system based on it, with a view to providing more choices for English majors and improving their interest and enthusiasm in learning English language and literature. Although the current value system of English language and literature based on the deep learning model still has some defects, with the continuous development of artificial intelligence technology and the continuous innovation of educational concepts, we believe that in the future, there will be more artificial intelligence technology to integrate with English language and literature courses in depth, to provide more choices for English majors.
